After-School Activities

Registration is on a trimester basis and there are no activities in the first and last weeks of the school year. Snacks are provided by the school. Activities must have a minimum number of students registered in order to run.

Ballet - Early Years and Elementary

Ballet promotes physical strength and agility, boosts concentration, develops an understanding of music and rhythm and generates a love of movement. Through exposure to dance, children enhance their sensory awareness, cognition (attention, memory and learning) and overall consciousness – skills that benefit children in all areas of life. Ballet offers a solid foundation and serves as a great starting point for children interested in other forms of dance such as jazz and hip-hop.

Art Club provides a creative and expressive outlet for students to explore various art forms and techniques. Through engaging projects and activities, students can develop their artistic skills, foster their imagination, and express their unique ideas.

In the Jeux en français program, students will engage in traditional games conducted entirely in French, guided by a Marymount French teacher. Students will be introduced and practice new vocabulary in a dynamic and interactive setting. Through these activities, students will enhance their linguistic proficiency while discovering the cultural richness embedded within French traditions.

Students will be encouraged and supported in exploring their creativity through a variety of mediums, such as clay, paint, wire, mark-making, construction, story-telling, music, and dance. The primary emphasis will be on nurturing each child’s personal, social, and emotional growth, with the aim of understanding and celebrating their unique individuality. The class will be conducted in an open and authentic manner, fostering independence and providing guidance as students engage in child-led exploration.

Students will be introduced to Celtic music and dance. Celtic music is a form of folk music that is not only popular in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, but also recognized on a global scale. Throughout the trimester, students will learn basic dance steps and gradually advance to more complex footwork. The main objective of this class is to foster self-expression through music and movement, allowing students to build confidence, develop self-esteem, and explore the rich traditions of Celtic music and dance. At the end of each trimester, we strive to showcase their progress in a dance performance.

Your preschooler’s musical creativity, enthusiasm, and skills are growing by leaps and bounds! In our Mixed-Age classes, preschoolers are the class leaders and are encouraged to contribute their ideas and lead the younger children, who love to watch and imitate them. And because Music Learning Supports All Learning, your preschooler will also be developing other skills they’ll need to succeed both in school and in life.

Lego Workshop is a technological, creative and fun workshop where students will be using their imagination and technical knowledge supervised by a Play Well teacher to create motorized structures with legos. Students will learn about engineering, mechanical, architectural and construction concepts using LEGO bricks. https://www.play-well.fr/

Multisports offers a diverse range of athletic activities that allow children to explore and develop their physical abilities in a fun and inclusive setting. With a focus on teamwork, coordination, and sportsmanship, Multisports encourages a well-rounded approach to sports and promotes an active and healthy lifestyle.

Stay and Play is the perfect opportunity for our youngest students to have agency and engage in games facilitated by our teachers or explore other available resources. It’s an activity that encourages imaginative play, interactive challenges, and allows their imaginations to run wild. With a focus on endless fun and exploration, children will have a blast while developing their creativity and social skills.

Nature art is a form of artistic exploration and expression in which creations are made from items found in nature: leaves, sticks, bark, pebbles, nuts, petals, mud, sand, shells, water and sunlight. It has been observed that there is an intrinsic therapeutic value to making art with these materials.

The American Conservatory is a Paris bases Music and theater company. They do a little singing, a little dancing, a little clowning, a little silliness, and have a lot of fun! They only use material that has positive values and messages. The program aims to teach children confident communication and to creating a supportive, positive environment to encourage confidence through performance of theater, music, comedy, and dance. This year, this activity will be proposed in French.

Performing in an ensemble activates and enhances students’ innate love of music-making. Students learn to listen and observe others around them by playing with their peers, strengthening their aural awareness, intonation, and balance. To participate in the Music Ensemble, your child must fit the following requirements: play a string, woodwind, or brass instrument and have a private teacher. (If you do not have one, we offer private lessons.) At the end of each semester the Music Ensemble will perform their current work!

In these classes, students learn how to start playing a string instrument of their choice, violin, viola, cello, and bass. Together they will learn how to play their new instrument through bowing games, beginning repertoire, ear training, the basics of music theory, and how to practice at home. They will learn all this amongst their peers in a fun and supportive environment.

To participate in Beginner String Group Class your child must have an instrument. There are lutiers in Paris that offer rentals for 17-20€ per month. Renting a violin is the best way to start because as your child grows they will need to change violins until they reach a full size. The lutiers also insure the instruments and are there for any necessary repairs along the way. In these classes, students will begin their journey with the guitar, learning fundamental techniques and skills. They will explore how to play their new instrument through strumming exercises, basic chords, introductory songs, ear training, and the essentials of music theory. Additionally, students will learn effective practice strategies to use at home. All of this will take place in a fun and supportive environment, fostering camaraderie and growth among peers.

Our Percussion class with drumming elements is an exciting opportunity for young music enthusiasts to explore rhythmic expression through percussion instruments. Led by skilled instructors, students will delve into the fundamentals of drumming techniques, rhythm patterns, and ensemble playing. This dynamic class encourages creativity and musical exploration, fostering a deep appreciation for percussion music. From collaborative drum circles to engaging rhythm games, students will develop their musical skills in a supportive and energetic environment.

Participants will develop critical attributes such as thoughtful decision-making, logical reasoning, precise calculations, patience, self-control, and heightened focus. The journey through chess fosters personal rigor, self-confidence, and determination, while nurturing respect for the game’s rules and for fellow players. Moreover, it cultivates a profound sense of Fairplay, promoting mutual benefit and respect for others. The chess classes will follow a structured format, beginning with a display panel explanation lasting 30-45 minutes, followed by player-to-player games spanning 45-60 minutes. In addition to these engaging activities, students will have access to exercise sheets, chess puzzles to solve, and the excitement of tournaments. As a culmination of their hard work, each student will be rewarded with trophies, medals, and delightful gifts at the end of the year.

Marymount is excited to continue with an enhanced Pre-Falcons & Falcons program, featuring increased resources for equipment and coaching. Additional qualified sports coaches will join our dedicated PE teachers, offering grades 4 & 5 and Middle School students opportunities to participate in a variety of sports.

Pre-Falcons & Falcons sports are offered on a trimester basis, aligning with international school sporting seasons. Practice sessions occur twice weekly per sport, with friendly games. Students are encouraged to give their best during training, actively participate in matches, and support their teammates.

This investment aims to enrich student experiences and uphold the Falcons’ legacy as a symbol of pride and accomplishment within both Marymount and the broader international community in Paris. Your understanding and support as we elevate our sports program are sincerely appreciated.
